Nighttime photography is kinda out of my comfort zone, mainly because I'm usually not carrying around my tripod. So, I'm left dealing with a longer exposure by either trying to stand still, or propping my camera onto something rigid nearby.

This photo was handheld. I shot this in raw, so I had some leeway with the exposure. What do you guys think? Any constructive comments/criticism would be appreciated.

hand held is tough for night shots unless your in Times Square, NYC or somewhere with lots of bright lights. I always leave my tripod in the car and bring it with me.

about the pic, i'm not too sure what you're trying to capture, the ppl or the brightly lit church. we're you trying to show how busy or many ppl there were?

Yeah. I wasn't about to bring my tripod there because of the obvious large crowd. I was trying to capture the crowd, but after I imported my images into my workflow I realized that the church seemed to look real nice. So, I tried to create a balance, where the church was exposed well, but you could still see the huge crowd. Not sure if I got that across or not though.

By the way, it was shot at ISO 800 and 1/6 s.

Neither the crowd or the church follows the rule of thirds and the focus of the picture at first glance is the buildings.

The black sky on the left is a large void and the noise is showing there.
On a re-shoot of this picture, I would have gotten lower to the ground making the people a foreground object. Bring the church more to the center at the right 1/3rd line.
Run the picture through noise reduction and possibly using a flash on very low power.

Outstanding 1/6th of a second shot though. Like you said, the church came out well lit.

Here. Has more of that Soylent Green/Omega Man 70's horror flick feel to it.

You have some serious unresolved issues there Mark. Glad I didn't vote for you now....
I didn't think Chewy was going for Halloween.

Nah, could have been any of a hundred political hacks on either side of the aisle. They're all horrifying. The GW one was easiest to find, though.

My apologies to Chewy for molesting his picture, though.

you guys... I'd rather see the floating hand than the floating feet. That GW one almost looked like a bat signal from hell.

Joking aside, nice one adrean8j.
