Why so many low mileage 2013 m5's for sale?

I'm looking at picking up a low mileage 2013 M5 and am just amazed at how many are out there especially compared to the same model year E63. Any thoughts as to why this is? Is this just normal? People just unhappy because they likely had to pre-order and couldn't test drive it? Or are they just that unhappy with some of the issues the car has had?

Just makes me a little nervous to jump in. Appreciate any input.

The market is saturated with new M5's.. dealers want to move them.

Have not noticed many low mileage used '13's for sale.

There are 9 within 300 miles of me (central Texas) 3 of which have less than 1000 miles on them according to AT. Then there's another 15 new ones in that same search area. Maybe it's nothing and normal or maybe it's just the area I'm in with large cities nearby. I haven't had a chance to drive one so I'm reserving judgment until I do.

In comparison, there are zero E63's in that same area and only 2 in the US (used 2013 vehicles). 9 if you include 2012.

A new/used search of the USA for both yields 51 E63's and 260 M5's. Were there just that many more M5's produced?

My plan is to drive both, but I just thought the numbers were a little odd given the similarity in the vehicles.

I bought one with 1800km/6 months old, the guy who had it turned it in and took a 650 grand coupe instead.

Sales guy said he found it too scary, but I am a sales guy too so I reckon he was talking it up - as I was lapping it up. Never I have been so easily "walked up" from my m3 to the m5 same colour even....and yes it is scary.

Just go drive it and go for it!

Cheers

I bought my m5 without test drive. Really makes no sense to test drive unless I'm allowed to test how I drive. Not below the speed limit that is.

+1. Compared to the E60, the F10 can get you in a lot more trouble very quickly. The turbo motor with all that power at 1,500 RPM can be daunting for some. You get owners that roll from one model to the next automatically without really thinking about the difference going from an NA engine to a Turbo engine makes.

There is not one for sale in the GTA and dealerships are about 2 months out for custom deliveries. BMW Canada has done well I assume.

Owners could not handle the raw power of the M.

or the wife made an ultimatum that if the hubby keeps on disappearing in the weekends with the M, then he ain't getting some at home.

Hmmm, what would you choose ???

I never test drove F10 M5 yet.. So correct me if I am wrong. Does this mean E63 is more easy to drive?

Truth is, most of the low milage F10 M5's (under 5,000 miles) you see for sale are actually dealership owned cars that the dealership used themselves and are now selling.

Even my own dealership here in San Diego admitted to this. We have Dealership Service Managers, Sales Managers, Regional Managers, and even the Dealership Owners themselves that use their dealership bought F10 M5 as their personal car for a few months and then dump it. Sometimes they get hooned, other times they don't.

It may be good for a potential buyer because they now get an almost new F10 M5 that already took the intitial depreciation hit and don't have to pay the destination fee or gas guzzler tax. On the other hand, you never know exactly how the car was driven by the dealership owner. I've personally seen dealer cars hooned before and even heard one story of an F10 M5 with like less than a 100 miles on it that had already been in an accident, with the dealership claiming that it got hit by a deer or something and was on sale for low 90's.

I suspect that there a number of people who purchased M5's that have the financial means to switch cars often . They take the depreciation hit and move on to the next new car experience . This doesn't mean that there is anything wrong with the M5 , in these cases it simply means "been there, done that" time to move onto the next great car.

Indeed, this could be true as well.

Keep in mind that the United States is about 7th with the most millionaires per capita in the world, has the most number millionaires in the world (over 5 million) and also has the strongest middle class in the world. So that means there are many people who can afford to throw away several thousand dollars in taxes and depreciation after only a few months of ownership.
