I would have replaced all plugs and the coil on then misfiring cylinder if the plugs had 60k on them. It's also a good preventative measure to do the other coils as well - but not necessary. I've seen a lot of issues with primarily the 13 and early 14 coils.

Where's a good place to buy them? Bosch coils are around $22 each on eBay, seeing if there's other options.

Thread title is coil replacement, so that's who them are. I've found Bosch coils for as low as $20.29 on FCPEuro. I bought my NGK two steps colder plugs from BMS' website but I don't recall what they cost.

Okay. Since the only two pertinent comments concerned both plugs and coils, I tried to be helpful and covered both. Great that FCPEuro is even lower than around $22 for the coils.

Could be coil, plug, or injector. If not any of those, it's a more serious issue.

Could also be a bad DME if all of the hardware checks out.

Ugh...looks like I popped a coil tonight doing a few freeway runs. Is everyone using oem coils for replacements? Has anyone tried these "high performance" coils? I may change out my plugs too as I'm coming up on 10k miles with current set.

So, going with NGK 97506 plugs and Bosch 0221504470 coils. Last edited by apexlocator; 11-27-2017 at 03:27 PM.. |

You don't have to replace the ignition coils on a maintenance interval like spark plugs.
There have been "product brand revisions" and BMW is notorious for this going back to the E36 days. BMW finds a vendor and sure enough that same chassis all a sudden has a TSB "Technical Service Bulletin" and all the ignition coils are being replaced by another brand. I would only recommend using the factory OEM brand. Cheap parts are cheap for a reason. |

I'm just over 100k and while I can't claim any coil issues, I replaced them anyways. I got them from FCP and will replace them at another 100k via their lifetime warranty...assuming I've still got the vehicle then.

James when I had a misfire I had replaced my plugs and injectors. It was time to anyway. Problem solved. But now it's time to go to a colder plug. My mileage is 115k now.
