Full Sakhir Orange & Brown trim inside, Havanna on the out, 6MT. You can keep your Caddy/Benz/Porsche/whatever comparisons, not having yet laid a wheel down...or even if you had. Silliness, arguing over 10-20 torque or HP. BMW represents to me a sophisticated engineering which US companies attempts to approximate with sledge-hammers, and Benzes are all about the luxury, which is gorgeous but boring as fuck. So: Why? Because BMW. Because 2002tii, Batmobile, & 1988 M6; because fuck all preppies with other preppies tied together around a stick; because Laguna Seca Blue, not fourteen shades of dark black/grey/blue, & silver. because 2006 Z4 M Coupe, because stick shift 2010 M6, and because 1M Coupé in the purest of whites. The key thing: how close can I bond with this baby when I'm driving it? Will North America get that 6-speed manual? (The English cat seems UK.) One key discrepancy: Front wheels get the big six-pot fixed calipers, ok but temperamental to maintain, blue mandatory, and rear gets only the usual (very good) sliding single, instead of the 4-pots that would've seemed to match, especially since they're going for a look.

I like this M5 overall. Here are the things that I like vs I dislike.

LIKE:

1. 560hp/500 Ib-ft of trque coupled with 7-speed DCT. This will tear the last generation M5 and all the other cars including CTS-V a new hole in the rear.

2. The gas mileage of 23.5 mpg combined seems to be a lot better then horrible gas mileage of E60 M5.

3. 7-speed DCT vs 7-speed SMG.....hands down win for DCT.

4. More aggressive wheel and tire combo as well as brakes vs E60 M5.

5. Much more rear seat room and better looking interior

6. More aggressive front end design.


DISLIKES:

1. Lack of high revving engine and boring 7200 rpm redline vs E60 M5 thrilling sky high 8300 rpm.

2. The lack of any carbon fiber use for roof or trunk or hood to reduce weight further.

3. I have doubts that this engine will sound as great as the high revving V10 specially as it reached it 8300rpm redline

4. The rear diffuser for the E60 M5 looked more aggressive compared to this F10 M5.

5. The i-drive knob is further away from the driver when it should be closer for ease of use.

6. In one year of extra development BMW could have extracted few extra horse power from the same engine in X5M/X6M. I think the power should have been around 575hp atleast and make it more of a 7500 rpm redline.

7. 8% price increase is making this car ever closer to $100K.
I think the price increase should have not been more then 1-2% at most. Since this is the same engine as found in X5M/X6M. Also, the DCT has already been out in M3 for a while. So there was no all new major development costs related to this F10 M5 like E60 M5. Atleast for E60 M5 the price hike was justified for developing a V10 and SMG tranny.


Final verdict F10 M5 > E60 M5 to me

Overall, I am liking the new car and it is a vast improvement over the other in many regards. However, BMW could have made it even better by reducing the weight further by using extensive carbon fiber. Developing the engine for bit more power vs X5M/X6M and make it a bit more higher revving. Also, the price hike is just plain stupid.

You can't ask for both lower cost AND more CF / R&D into the car.

Well they did not use CF/R&D and increased price. So we got shafted from both ends.

That extra 8% probably went to better gas mileage and tuning S63 into S63Tu. In terms of R&D, they probably followed the world-wide trend which is towards efficiency. I'm sure there are other factors that we just don't know about.

Eitherway, 8%, yes, extremely bad decision.

Do you know why the Bugatti Veyron costs 1.2m euros? because it takes this much money to make 1000hp Safe to drive!

Not to mention the fact that this M5 gets 29MPG! WTF a M car that does near 30MPG??? But no you moan about 20-30hp when its already putting out 560hp! This is like complaining that your Gold bullion is only 999.99 pure!

MOAR BHP is not the aim of todays car makers.

The new M5 had recently made its way onto the track at Laguna Seca and BMW was kind enough to shoot some video while there. The bone chilling engine and exhaust note are more then enough to remind us that this car is the real deal and belongs at home on the track just as well as it does on the road.

The F10 M5 is of course BMW's fifth generation of the M5 and newest M car to make it to market. The M5 packs 560HP and 501 ft-lbs of torque, all the information and videos can be seen in the official BIMMERPOST thread for the M5.
