I'm well aware you can build a PC that runs circles around a mac at a fraction of the cost. But unless all you do is play video games all day, render video or 3D models, that point is really moot. I can do 90% of the computer tasks I do daily with my 1.8 core2duo laptop as I can with my 2.8 Core I7 desktop without feeling a noticeable difference in speed. The performance argument between Macs and PC's just doesn't matter anymore. Computers are fast enough for most people. Now it all comes down to software and hardware design.

So your saying that the only thing better about a mAc is the OS because everything else doesn't matter anymore?

Apple usually cuts a deal with intel to get parts 6-12 months before they are released to the public. So to answer your question, hardware does matter and on a new mac it is better than a PC
![]() Also if you build a PC with the same parts as a mac pro, it usually comes out to costing about the same if not more. Most 12 core workstations that dell or HP offer start at $7k |

Having trouble finding it? It's not hard to look at there website and see what hardware is in their computers only to realize its twice the price and is certainly not the "newest" hardware. You seriously need to take a look at apple's website and do a comparison of what you can get the same exact parts for on newegg and see how much of a cost difference it is. Not to mention I can get most hardware for OEM prices.

Dell and HP are complete shit this is common knowledge, I would never buy one and if I was given one for free I would sell it right away. So once again completely irrelevant. If you want to compare mac to a PC at least be fair and compare it to a quality brand or a custom build.

Quality vise what's comparable to Apple? I'd say the Sony Vaio series and their prices are right in line with Apples. No matter what brand of PC I've used, I have never experienced the same fit and finish as an iMac or a Macbook pro. Just look at the unibody aluminum design. No one can recreate that yet. The best comparison I can think of between a Mac and PC is this. A mac is a BMW where you pay extra but you get refinement and quality where the PC is like an STI or an Evo. It's fast as fuck, about half the price, and can be easily fixed if something goes wrong. There's something for everyone just gotta figure out what you're most comfortable with ![]() |

I'm an average user and have both mac (personal) and pc (work). It all depends heavily on OS. Windows 7 is marginally better than anything Microsoft had to offer in the past. I'd say it's not as easy to use as Mac, but wins in terms of software availability. Overall, Windows 7 is on par with Snow Leopard for me.
