//M5 or //M6GrandCoupe? (if they make one)... that is the question.

M5 FTW... but both going into limp mode tells me how worthy they are of being true track cars.

Scott26 has confirmed that BMW is making one, and that it will be the flagship ///M car

Same engine from the F10 M5 and F12 M6, but tuned for slightly more power.

Limp mode on the second lap. Sorry but the S85 would not have gone into limp mode. This sounds like the same old 335i issues creeping up.....which is fine on an ///M5 as most won't see much track time, but if this is the basis for building the engine for the new ///M3, that is VERY troubling.

Cheers,

That is not a question. I read earlier that the M6 Grand Coupe will come with ~30 more horsepower over the M5/6 when it comes out so the GC choice is obvious.

Now whether the M5/6 get an LCI update with a corresponding power boost to match the GC when it comes out is the proper question

+1!

I think that's fine since not a lot of M5 owners go to the track anyways.

That would be crazy but I doubt there will be a power boost for //M5/6 lci.
Do you guys think //M5 will loose fan base due to //M6 GC?
(its almost like X5 //M vs. X6 //M)

Any M5 deficit in HP can easily be addressed with an aftermarket tune. The interesting question is if the M Gran Coupe will weigh more and use upgraded engine internals. My guess is yes to the 1st question and no to the 2nd question.

My guess is they'll all use the new s63Tu no further tuning

"but both going into limp mode tells me how worthy they are of being true track cars."

No other review has mentioned anything similar, so I would not jump to conclusions based on one review....I’m not saying these are ideal track cars, but I read an article where M engineers said the F10 can go through 2 tanks of gas at race speed on the ring(25+ laps) before, any type of heating issue would be of consideration. Also BMW M has done massive multi day endurance test with the M6 on the ring. So for cars their size I would say they are more suited to the track than anything else of comparable size/weight.

That was the most boring video I ever watched.

Looks like both vehicles have some pretty sore spots with limp mode.

It'll be interesting to see if that happens when Top Gear gets their hands on them.

Everyone should know by now that Bmw is best handling/track and Merc is best straight line. Bmw needs to put their heads together to make a powerful super car. My big bros C63amg owns me no matter what even at 19 psi. When he took my car to the track. He said it handles way better than his. Case closed on my end.

Maybe its just me, but they really could have "jazzed" up the exterior of the M5....it really is not that distinguishable from the basic 5 series disappointing (to me)
