Honestly, expected. The pricing is almost forced by their German competition. How much more could they make it than the E63? It is strange over the years how the M-cars have become more expensive than the AMG couterparts. It use to be the other way around. I wonder if the M3 will follow suit?

LOL you honestly believe that? It is impossible for that statement to be true. There are already two examples of the N63 and S63 to draw a conclusion from.

What was the last yr of the outgoing E60 M5 - 2010? This is a MY 2013, so 5% over 3 yrs is not that bad, and it is not like the dollar was helping in the meantime. Factor some inflation and hopefully more standard features, and it is looking like a good deal to me.
No no, what I'm saying is that I don't think the news is all that great about the price. It went up 5k, it should have stayed the same IMO or maybe 1k more.

I guess I'm happy here in Canada with 5k less then outgoing.

and Yes, 2010 was the last model year for the E60

Plus, after the residual and lease rates in Canada, you might as well be buying the car out - not something I'd want to do with a Porsche that has spent 3 winters in the salt and sand. So it turns out in my province, the S is a rich man's toy.

The M5 on the other hand is well suited to winters up here and a young family. Granted it will never drive and handle like the S, but is will make a satisfying alternative.
I agree. M5 is more suitable for family, downright brawler, and a weekend worrier

The whole idea of Euro Delivery is to take delivery of your car at the delivery center called the Welt in Munich. You get to drive your car around Europe for up to a month and then BMW ships it to your local dealer.

At the performance school, you get to drive the piss out of their cars.

You forgot $8K carbon ceramic brake package..

I think we know know the "significant modification" are.

Carbon fiber brakes and the B&O sound system.

The new options are not the changes being referred to. More on this soon in our upcoming interview with BMW M.

It depends which european country you're talking about. Some have luxury taxes, some doesn't. As much as I know you Aussies have luxury taxes or something like that? So that's one of the reasons why you have to pay that much (as someone mentioned, you have to pay in Turkey about $ 300'000, it's probably similar in Sweden, Norway etc.). We can't blame BMW for that, at least not for the taxes part.

But I really want to hear what reasons the BMW managers can bring to justify the huge price differences between all those countries if we deduct the different taxes. For example, Switzerland has no luxury taxes and the sales taxes are 8% (so, less than in most other european countries) but the price for the M5 is about $ 160'000... and Switzerland is about 2h away from Munich, so they don't even have a big transportation route. Sure, the base models have some more equipment, but this can't be the main explanation for that...

Don't forget, here in America, unlike lots of countries, Sales Tax, in my state 8%, is added after the price, not built in to the price like in Europe, not sure about Canada...
