F10 M5 LCI facelift?
Can someone tell me if M cars get the LCI at the same time as the standard series or if there any lag? If history is a guide, won't the F10 be getting its LCI for the 2014MY?
I'm trying to decide if I want to pull the trigger on ordering an M5 now, or keep my E60 550 another year. If there's an LCI just around the corner, I may want to wait... then again, there will always be something new "right around the corner." |

i think there will be an LCI probably model year 2014, since the 7 series is getting a facelift this summer and will probably get a new face and tail, and usually an updated screen or idrive, probably these things will carry over next year in the whole F10 range. we also might see updated lights or something, but nothing major.
If you want the car get it now, there are always changes coming up here or there. |

When was the e60 M5 LCI in relation to its first (Europe) launch? And what was included in the LCI? Any cosmetic changes that were not easily retrofitted?

I think because many here are waiting for a late 2013 model or a 2014 model - and since its been out in Europe already as a 2012 model we fear an LCI is coming for 2014 or 2015. I just dont want to pull the trigger on late 2013 build and have it facelifted 3 months later in the form of a 2014 model.

The F10 came out for MY2010, so I'd say LCI would be MY2013 or 2014 at the latest, so you'd be able to buy them in mid-2012 or 2013. I kind of suspect it'll be MY2014 otherwise we'd have seen LCI spyshots by now, but I think the M5 will get the LCI updates at the same time. The M3 got its LCI update at the same time as the respective body styles of the base 3 series models (MY09 for sedan and 11 for coupe/convertible). Note that the E90 M3 was only out for one model year before getting LCI, and considering technically MY2012 is the global first MY for the M5, I don't think it's unreasonable to suspect it could happen pretty soon.

Folks, the F10 is due for a face lift for the 2014 MY, which means the F10 M5 in the US will have a run of solely one year (MY 2013) before the LCI. Too early to speculate what will be included in the LCI, but should be meaningful enough to distinguish the 2013-2014 models (likely new square corona AEs, LED headlights, revised steering wheel, touch-pad NAV, etc.)
If the E39 M5 is any indication (where too the first and only year of the old-body had a 12 month run, namely 2000, the LCI was significant and caused the 2000 models in 2001 to instantly look very aged). For those that are patient, worth the wait IMO considering discounted pricing may be better (initial demand rush well satiated and buyer should have better leverage in negotiating).

Someone correct me if I'm wrong here, but doesn't BMW usually do the LCI beginning in the fifth MY of a seven year product cycle? Thus you have four years of production and three years of LCI production. Wasn't the E60 introduced as a MY2004 with the LCI in MY2008? Thus you had MY2004, MY2005, MY2006, MY2007, followed by LCI MY2008, LCI MY2009, and LCI MY2010 with the F10 being introduced as a MY2011 model? By that logic, wouldn't the F10 receive its LCI in MY2015?
Similar to my friend's 2008 LCI E60 that was built in October 2007, I would suspect LCI F10s to begin appearing October 2014. If I'm correct, I just answered my own question... That's far too long for me to wait! |

Lets say 2014 MY is an LCI year, given BMW's history, when would they make the announcement?

The F01 LCI has already been spyed in the wild. Presumably, that will be a MY2013 (first introduced MY2009). My guess would be we're likely to know it's coming 6 or so months before production. Using the same timeline, though, the E89 is due for an LCI for MY2013, but we haven't heard a thing about it.

Watch out for prototypes/test mules first, before there is any announcement. The 7 series is a good example, been seen in the wild (with camouflage) for a while before the formal announcement is made.

Spoke to an insider today and they are mum on the LCI for the F10. Sales are still very strong but they said to expect the usual updates of LED (optional like the 6er) and some very minor cosmetic upgrades like the F01. I saw a new 7er today and without the squared LEDs it looks almost identical.
