I got my Singapore Grey Jekyll & Hyde M5
As stated in the titel, last thursday I picked up my car (LHD) in Ashford, Kent UK
Above showing the car waiting for me at the BMW ISSD pickup center; Everything went extremely smooth! I hate it when salesmen take hours to explain a car, where we all know that we got every detail upfront (through passionate forums like this) .. We showed up 2 hours early , but no problem Victoria helped us out very well! When I saw the car, I got impressed, by the destiguish yet powerful look! Coming from a GT-R R35 the design is less screaming for attention. Driving back to my country , using eurotunnel was excellent, it gave me 30 minutes sitting in the car, feeling it, reading the manual, playing with some M modes, discover TV/DVD , and fell in love with the head up display; Driving, wel at first I was a bit disappointed, although I've said to myself 'Nas you can't compare this with the GT-R' I still did .. I expected the nervosity / eagerness of the drivetrain I was used to, but it wasn't;THe car drove like a real gentleman. Actually it is one of the qualities of the new M5, being able to drive slowly, under the radar, without any stress enjoying the comfort of this car. On the highway, keeping in mind that the control display stated clearly to respect the 2000 km of drive in period, I drove carefully, did not revved above 3500 rpm, the car caught me; I was playing around with M settings, defining my M1 and M2 button, and with the last setting, (everything off, en supersport mode) I forgot to put it back in comfort modus, thinking in this mode I wanted to pass a car, hitting the throttle the same way as in comfort mode, but boy hellowwww this was the GT-R feeling, anxious to go forward suddenly before I realized I got 5k rpm WOW h:h:h: around 3800-4000 rpm it appears some kind of a valve opensup and the character of the car changed from a James Bond suited car to a Vin Diesel - I can eat porsches for breakfast, ferrari's for lunch and lamb's for diner- car! Damn I look forward to +5000km when I can really use the full power. :viking: So the new M5 is not a sheep in wolves clothes, it's just Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde!!! :grinyes: The dwarfs stating the V10 is the nicer sounding car , are just lacking every sense of realism! True a V10 screams nicer, but there you have it SCREAMS.. you must high rev and therefor drive on a circuit or like a crazy pr** on the road; THe V8 sounds better, complexes though but better, You have the raw sound of the Merc, with a deep growling V8 sound (nice!!) or a V8 from an american or the round full V8 brrraap from the N/A V8's in S & RS audi's, but this BMW V8 has his own character = a typical V8 sound, but not in a poser way (like a merc does); No some complex mixture from the V8 sound between the E39 M5 and the E9x M3 but tasted with a small-block V8 with race camshaft; kinggf Ok before I get too lyrical about the car; Pictures: I love the color combo! Some could judge by the pictures, it is kind of boring, well in real life it is astonishing: Singapore /Singapur Grau /Grey is for me the best suite for the M5; As the car is meant to be a compromise , a car for daily use with occasional demo-ing on circuits, I visit regular customers / partners / suppliers; I do not want to be judged base on the car a show up with, so this color makes it stylish-stealth proof :eek7: I must admit that the interior color was chosen only on paper, never saw it IRL but hey it turned out a really nice combo; THe only thing I expected when ordering the extend leather .. was the top of the dashboard would be in this leather to, NOT :s The M-seat are ..well you know fatboy's ? Image that but in a sportive way => I rest my case :blabla: So before posting a bunch of iPhone pics .. my question about driving in this car; How do you drive it in? (details) Don't give me the standard reply I never rev above 5000 during the first 2000km and between 2&5k km I built up slowly but never go above 220 km/h sorry I can read as well ;-) :deal: When I went to a friend of mine, who is a Swissvax detailer / cleaning and wrapping guy, (one of the perfectionist species) he told me that new M cars appears to be software controlled during the drive in period, he was able to drive for long time with 1M, and told me after inspection of the 2000km he got a totally other car, more powerful .. So now I am curious!! :grinyes::grinyes::grinyes: Mods made: Side gills wrapped in Black; (difficult to pull off those, but succeeded ) and performance black kidneys ; I am not a fan of chrome .. :dunno: so enough blablabla here are the pictures: |

You noted the software control during the break-in period which I was told about by my dealer as well. Will be very very interesting after the 2k service . .

Nice and classy color combo unlike those who go full juvenile with the sakhir interior. On smaller cars like the 1 and 3 series cars I think sakhir is ok, but for a executive saloon sakhir is too gaudy.

I would have to disagree. The M5 is not your every day car. A Sakhir interior works VERY well on a car like the M5. It makes it stand out. If you want a purely "executive" car, get a 550. This is a car that should stand out from its 5 series siblings. But different strokes for different folks. I my self will be going with Singapore Gray with Sakhir interior.

"Full Juvenile" was probably what BMW was going for by offering it.

Thanks guys!!!
Almost having the 2000km so upcoming week I will make an appointment with my dealer; After that ... it is party time; But what a car Can't believe it, even with half throttle and careful driving, that car is fast! So I am looking forward .. What would I recommend to BMW Motorsport GMBH guys, well duh, the steering might have been a tickle directer. So a question to my fellow colleagues having the rear seat entertainment system; Does it came standard with 2 headset or did you have to buy them? I am missing those:s After 1700km no report here to add some oil, I noticed when measuring the oil level through the menu, the oil level (when on temperature) decreased slightly to the level just under max. Think it's fairly normal. Will give you updates with some movies later after the 2k running in period |

@OP
Singapore Grey is a non-metallic paintwork, correct? I don't see metallic in the photos but wanted to be sure that it was non-metallic.

Look like a '13, an identical twin to mine. I also blacked out the front and side grills, but now you'll have to get a gloss black M5 logo on the rear and you would not be able to tell ours cars apart. I get so many compliments on the color and I'm sure you will too. Very easy color to keep clean. Congrats and enjoy.
