Winter Wheels / Tires Set up for F10 M5

I did see that at some point. Ive seen a lot more from them on the corvette side of the world. From the looks of it they stand by their product pretty well and warrant againt manufacturing defects. Ive done quite a bit of research on lots of different suppliers and ultimately over the lifetime of a company some level of defective product is unavoidable. Most of the reviews Ive read on their product have been very positive and I havent heard a complaint about their service.

We'll see how it goes.

Just went on the Tirerack site - according to the configurator...

$3,176.00 - total for (4) 20x9.5 O.Z. Canyon ST Matte Graphite Silver, (4) 255/35R20 XL Bridgestone Blizzak LM-60 Blackwall, Mounted/Balanced and including (4) 433MHz Tire Pressure Sensor.

Looks - not so bad for winter shoes, just need to confirm fit!!!

Has anyone had any experience with Nokian WR G2 winter tires?

I went to Direct Tire today and the sales guy is recommending these tires for a winter setup.

I've never heard of this brand before and hesitant to buy them without any reviews from this forum.

I have a friend with a Toyota Celica switched to this WRG2 tires as he is too lazy to have a summer & winter sets.

They are adequate for winter but they are pretty noisy (given those tread block on the tires) and in winter dry road condition, they do not handle well when braking and cornering, I think he suggested they are a bit too soft.

For the M5, try to stay with the V speed rated tires, if possible. H speed rated tire is fine too, like the Bridgestoen LM60

I also had a set of Nokian WRG2 on my E90 M3 for winter. Great in snow but not great on dry pavement. I suppose it depends where you live. For my climate in OR the Michelin Pilot Alpin PA3s were perfect.

Thanks for the feedback. We definitely get some heavy snow days in New England. I'm leaning towards the Pirelli Sottozero. I've heard decent reviews about this tire, plus BMW is using this tire in Europe for their winter wheel/tire option for the M5.

I have a set of 255/40-20 from my Audi A8, brand new Scoto's. Would these fit my stock 20" wheels? I mean, they would fit, but what do you think of the size?

you speedo will read 57 mph. Acutal is really 60mph.
your current tire size will have a diameter difference of 4% which is 1 inch.

Not recommended.

Issue may occurs:
- Steering
- braking

He's saying that the height of the tire and the rubber is 1" more than your stock tires which could create issues for ABS, traction control, stability control.

The math on your snows is 255mm X 40% aspect ratio= 102mm. Compare this to a tire that is 255/35 which is 255mm X35% aspect ratio = 89.25 mm so the winter tire is 12.75mm more rubber height times 2 (top and bottom of tire) making the approx 1" overal height difference.

PS : Aspect ratio is how high the tire is reletive to the width

Although not recommended, you can try out your tires and see if any adverse effect arises. If it works, then it's great and you save about $1500 or so.

Lastly, the speedometer may not be your biggest concern, proper braking or steering may be more of an issue.

Google 'incorrect tire size' or 'oversized tire problem & issue' will enable you to learn a bit more.

The offering is 19". That's the only set available for the M5 and they are coming from Germany directly (tires & wheels mounted at factory).

I asked my dealer TCBMW for any possible discount, Parts guy offered about $100 or so off, ONLY if the M5 is bought from the same dealer. Therefore, in all, if anyone is interested in buying this stock set ($5300 all in), do shop around with different dealers.

I have checked the European BMW site offering the same set and by converting the currency over from Euro to Cdn, it's almost exactly the same selling price .... shipping & import duties are not included from my research comparison.

The ones Im having made by CCW are 2900+powdercoat+shipping+tires (49+change for everything). I am having them manufactured to the same sizing as the OEM 408M's. Im sure there are cheaper ones around, but, these are at a pretty good price for forged wheels.

Make sure you have it test fitted before mounting the winter tires.

My Forgeline wheels came in from the States today and I went to have one front wheel test fitted ... guess what, the front brake caliper is too big and rubbing the wheel, even though I gave them the exact spec (offset & width) as the 345M wheel. Now, the wheel shop will have to contact Forgeline Monday to get them to remake another set or I will have to go back to the drawing board and winter time is fast approaching.

I have never encountered so much trouble buying a set of aftermarket wheels before. When I looked at Tirerack, everything is 20" and limited choices of winter tires available too.

I am just going to go 20 - even with my spacers and winter tread there was plenty of clearance on the 911 in 19inch form. I put on such little KMs on the car was even thinking of getting rubber and putting it on the OEM rims - worked great on my current ride.
