Post Video: One Nurburgring Lap in the F10 M5 Ring Taxi

Video: One Nurburgring Lap in the F10 M5 Ring Taxi

COMMENTS

The M5 recently made its return to Nurburgring taxi duty while taking on a different and newer form - the F10 M5. We previously posted footage of the M5 taxis running around the 'Ring,' but here's in-car footage from a one lap run around the track. Check out the cool superimposed track map, speed, and G-force displays.

The taxi ride was a gift from a son for his dad's 65th birthday and the driver was Walter Haup, an M5 taxi driver and instructor for M driver training programs.

The lap time isn't nearly what the F10 M5 is capable of as the point of M5 taxi rides is not to achieve the best time possible, but the fastest Nurburgring lap time officially listed for the F10M is 7:55 (lap time list).

Video of the M5 taxi from the outside (during testing, prior to service).

Very nice video.

Can't wait for the LCI so I can do
ED and take a few laps on the ring!

Sorry if this a stupid question but is the last straight not included in the lap? Why I ask is because its the longest straight and it is not added in the video.

The couple days I went, the last straight wasn't very exciting because most people are preparing to exit the Ring and are going pretty slow.

I really need to get back there for a lap in the M5, we had a "lowly" M3 for our Taxi lap. :P

I just did the ring taxi in June, and first off, what an experience.

The last straight is not on the video because that is where the taxi (along with other motorists) enter and exit the track. If you look at a couple of the other you tube videos of onboard laps (the Toyota EV lap is a great one to watch in HD), they show the entrance and pavilion where everyone typically enters on the right side of that main straight.

I wish on this video that they didn't do any artsy stuff and just showed the lap, but this is also an older video.

Audi offers something similar to the Ring-taxi, and they do an onboard lap and make it available to their customers after their lap (something I wish BMW would have done), but it is an incredible experience.

BTW: Our lap was done at 9:45 from gate to exit (including the slow cone travel as you enter the track), and that was with tons of traffic and a yellow flag.

If it was a full lap and no traffic, it could have easily done it in low 8:00, probably high 7:00.

it's even more fun cruise behind the Ring Taxi (they're not really fast) and then overtake it at some point.

while I see you putting in a good lap, the M5 can hardly be going around at a pedestrian pace. Props for making your lap that much faster!
