I think it's amazing all the work that goes into these cars we love. Have not driven an F10 M5 yet but when I drove a friends E60 M5 and a loaner F10 535I I was so surprised that despite the size I felt like I was driving 3 series. Really amazing how the achieve that I feel like going a backroad drive now, too bad I'm working

I prefer review below.

1. No commercial ties, therefor no marketing strategy.
2. Owned several M cars.

It was, really interesting to see such a different perspective on the car BMW built and the decisions behind it. I guess time will only tell how it fairs for them in terms of success.

That's an awesome review, and have to say, one of my gripes is also with the lights. I wish the M5 had the LED lights which the 6ers, 7ers, and X6ers already have. Thanks for posting this!

Guys, that Russian guy is a well known street racer. His driving is unbelievable.
Anyways, as hard as it is to believe after watching that review, he is actually getting a M5 soon.

He currently drives a GOLD X5M with over 600hp tuned.

Also Test drove a new SB M5 at my dealership. Amazing car! It really is bipolar.

The ability to manage extra weight is very important because as electric drive components become widespread, vehicle mass will climb faster than lightweight materials can bring the mass down.

Wow....excellent articulation of the key issue: no major innovation engine wise, unlike every precedent generation of M cars, yet BMW is still charging a premium price. Also the reason why the new M cars are losing more than 50% of comparison tests (vs close to 0% in prior gens) - the competition has moved forward, BMW hasn't.

BMW is moving like Toyota. Top priority is expansion (China) and units (China).

Came in here to say this.

I couldn't care less about what that M marketing guy has to say unless it is something negative about the car. In fact, I don't even want to hear what that main idiot at the desk has to say, give the entire show to Harris.

The guy at the desk and that short little ex-racer older guy co-founded Drive. The desk guy is a terrible host time and time again. He keeps trying, but he doesn't get it; he sucks.

The M5/6 are seriously too fat of cars. If the F80 M3 isn't 3500lbs or lighter, it will still be a fat tub. My E92 is a blast to drive, but the weight is obviously there, and I doubt that's any different in the M5/6. More weight = worse braking. More weight = slower in turns. More weight = slower acceleration. BMW needs to give a more raw sports car to consumers that want it. Be that in a whole new M-only model, or stripping the M3 into more of a track car with some added package (include CCBs). It is being demanded by many M enthusiasts. The M3 is creeping up in price to the Nissan GT-R territory, and it's already well within the Z06 Vette territory. M division was less about luxury and more about going to the track, so don't give me that nonsense. If you want a luxury car that goes fast, tune a 335i/550i. If you want a track car, it should be M division.

A bit raw by approach, and he has two things very wrong...

1) The reason there is sand under the hood is, he is driving the car like it's a truck and like a complete jackass, and simply shows it no respect.

2) The M5's engine truly is special.

He clearly has never really driven the car for what it truly is.

He clearly has never really driven the car for what it truly is.

1) He claims he drove it 2500km on normal roads. How exactly do you drive a car like a truck?

2) It's not a special engine by any stretch. A TT 4.4L V8 making 560HP and revs to a bit over 7k? Pft. Boring. Ferrari takes a 4.58L engine, NA, and produces more HP and revs to 9k RPM. Now THAT'S an engine. GT-R does 3.8L TT V6 and makes basically the same HP too now for 2012. Porsche Does 622HP from a TT 3.8L Boxer 6. I'm not saying BMW needs to drop some F1 engine in, but I'm saying that you're highly misguided if you think it's special. You seem to be more interested in defending BMW as a brand than asking the hard questions.

Heck, the NA 4.0L V8 making 414HP in my M3 is only impressive because of the redline. Power is cheap. BMW needs to compete with the M division better than what they're offering. I can understand the M5/6 market (mid-life crisis people that want a fancy, speedy touring car). However, The M3 people want more, raw, track-ready performance.
