What is this from?
Hey guys,
Just took my OEM 343 wheels off the car yesterday to put on some new boots (post pictures later this week.) The OEM's had 51 miles on them and I noticed this on the back of one of the wheels. What is this from? Should I do anything about it? |

That does not look like it happened during fitment of the tires imo. I worked at a tire shop when I was younger and at least with the equipment we used it was near impossilbe to damage the wheel like that. I would think BMW has pretty good equipment over at the factory as well..
That looks more like curb damage since it's spread so wide over the wheel + the tire itself looks scuffed as well (or is this just bad lighting?). So driving at an angle over a curb could create this sort of thing. |

Hey guys...
I didn't take the car to a car wash at all. Or park it anywhere. The car literally got picked up, put in my garage and then went to the tire place where I watched them take the tires off. Do the dealerships put the car through an auto washer? Thought they did everything by hand? The stuff on the tire itself is a mixture of the lighting and some dirt that accumulated there. It is not damage at all. The whole thing is kind of mind boggling to me. When I say these only have 51 miles, I mean it haha |

Looks like the edge of a speed bump. If you ever try to drive in the middle of the split type this can happen............Phil

That's from the shop while installing the tires, they didn't use enough lubricant and they did it completely wrong to damage the wheel that bad.

re
DONT GO TO YOUR DEALER ABOUT THAT. You may have a more serious issue to deal with and i would not waste a bullet on something no one will see. However, if you thnk the balance is off i would talk to them but i would drop it. Highly doubtful that is from factory...i doubt it happened loading on a vehicle carrier as well. It could have happened in a car wash or running up against lift rails. Doubt this is a dealer issue since its too hard to prove. just move on.

The only problem you get when you don't use lubricant (or use enough of it) is that you will have a harder time putting the tire on, that's it. The part of the machine that is touching the wheel during a tire install can not scratch the wheel. |
