BIMMERPOST NEWS
Airstrip Attack: ESS VT600 Supercharged M3 vs Stock F10 M5

COMMENTS

BIMMERPOST once again sponsored the most recent Airstrip Attack, a two day runway shootout race event held at the Coalinga Municipal Airport in Coalinga, California. As before, the event saw some of the most powerful European, Domestic, and Japanese cars from California go head-to-head on a half mile stretch of tarmac. The classes ranged from 400hp+ all the way to 1000hp+

The following race featured a ESS VT600 Supercharged M3 vs Stock F10 M5. Check out the result in the video.

We'll be posting many more shootout videos from the event, so stay tuned to our homepage for updates. Many thanks to DLSJ5 (Drew) for preparing the videos.

now this makes no sense to me whatsoever... I raced Adam, and we were almost neck and neck, i got him first race by a car cause of wheel spin, and he got me second race by a car... Unless Nick did something wrong here, makes no sense...

Is this the first race where the F10 M5 actually loses?

Makes sense to me... the SC M3 has more horsepower and is lighter, what's the surprise?

WOW. You read which cars are racing and the mods installed and you get an idea of how a race might go...and then you actually see the video and it's not as expected.

E92 M3 + ESS Supercharger is just f--king amazing.

i know. it doesnt seem right for the m3 to have pulled so hard on the f10 like that, even if t was tuned.

so is a VT600 m3 assumed to have 600 hp? if so, the m5 is said to have 600, and 520-540 to the wheels.

thus i would think it should be almost even between these.

Right, but he made it look like the M5 was down 200-300hp.

How about we follow some logic?
If A > B and B > C then we can say that A > C right?

So:

If the M5 is side by side with the GTR and the VT625 just barely beats the GTR, how is it putting amtrak lengths on that F10 M5?

That's what people are comparing it to.

Right, but you are forgetting about weight. And idk what run this is but I've seen the M5 in a few other videos, with the heat and doing pulls all day that engine has got to hot as shit so there's probably a loss there as well.

Well Adam did get the slight jump on me, but nothing major in this situation. We each had a passenger and i did get some wheel spin on my 2-3 upshift. I think he is throwing down like ~560WHP. Also, that was my 9th and last run for the day...Stuff happens, its a race. Can't wait to run him again.. First stock then tuned

What up Sick! In looking back at the vids I think you put 6 cars in me on our first run when I spun and hit fuel cut off but on our rematch run it looks like I put 2+ cars on you and that run should get posted up but not sure if you spun. If not I'll sent to you when I return from vacation as I'm on a surf trip for the next couple weeks.

Also, Nick was in the bad lane on this run so he probably spun a little more than I did on this particular run.

Nothing wrong here at all.

The M3 is lighter, more powerful.

F10 M5 Drag Coefficient: 0.33
E92 M3 Drag Coefficient: 0.31

This car that we built is sporting an ESS VT2-600 kit along with an MRF Motorsport mid-section, its making the equivalent of about 680 BHP. The car runs very efficiently at roughly 5 lbs of boost pressure.

There is more specialty work going to be completed to Adam's car to make it even more efficient very soon. For now, the car is very happy, reliable and perfect.

How much hp does it put to the wheels? According to eas videos ess vt2 m3s have far less whp than this stock m5 f10 on the same dyno, so it's a bit strange that it was beaten like that..

Not the first time an F10 M5 lost to a ESS SC M3. This is a car very similar in power to the one in this video. This is a manual M3 not DCT and still pulls away.

Adam is putting down about 30+more hp on the same dyno. His car is a beast. I had a ton of weight with close to 3/4 tank 91 octane gas and a passenger... I was fat, regardless he was faster. Well see next time.

We dyno tested the F10 M5 and it made very similar top end power to our VT2-600/625 kit on the M3. Both come in around 540 whp. The F10 M5 has close to 1k lbs of additional weight it has to move so that is going to have a negative effect on acceleration VS the M3.
