Opti coat 2.0

I had a detailer apply it today, but I probably should've just done it myself. The car looks great though. I'm interested to see how the water repels next time I wash it.

Did your detailer do a paint prep before applying? Looking for a good detailer in OC to do this to my AW M5...

Yes, he did the opti rinse less wash, buffed and polished.

I applied it all over my M5 and this product is the real deal. Last night I took the M5 to my local coffee shop. Unbeknownst to me, there was a forecast for heavy rain (which it never rains here). So my M5 got soaked last night. After the coffee shop I drove it home and then parked it in my garage still dripping wet. When I went to work this morning, there were virtually no water spots left on it. The only part that was dirty was on the rear part of the trunk where dirt had accumulated. The rest of the car was bone dry and no water spots.

I had also applied the Opti-Coat 2.0 to all of my windows, my wheels, inside my door jams and even on my interior Piano Black Trim. The product is the real deal!

I had some rain driving to work this morning and also found myself with a spotless car minus the trunk in the afternoon. I wish I had applied some on the wheels, that's a smart move. Opti coat is definitely the real deal!

It can be done but optimum says it is not designed for windshield.

I also think Aquapel works better on glass than Opticoat.

Yes I applied the Opti-Coat to all of my windows including my windshield. We've had a TON of rain the past few weeks here in SoCal and I almost didn't even need to use the windshield wipers.

I ordered PPG Aquapel as suggested by a friend and mentioned in a thread in this forum -- it seems to do the same as Rain-X but lasts a long time, months instead of days.

I would recommend going with 22PLE..it's the newest thing out there and in my honest and professional opinion...it's better then opticoat for 2 reasons...easier to apply and last longer when applied properly

That remains to be proven. When Opticoat/Optiguard first came out, everybody touted how great and long lasting it was. Well time has passed and really proved its durability. 22PLE may be the same. There are caveats with most permanent coatings such as Opticoat/Optiguard and 22PLE. Permanent (shiny) coatings such as Opticoat/Optiguard (and possibly 22PLE) in time could develop spider webbing due to inherent and unavoidable defects (it would be almost impossible to have a perfect clear coat, could be the chemicals themselves, the way it is applied, and other factors, so, some imperfection will be there which may not show up right away). So what do you do then? Your only recourse is to strip the coating, clean/repaint, then reapply the coating -- a very expensive undertaking. Whereas if it were a non permanent coat such as wax, it is so much easier to apply, buff and voila, spider webbing gone! Also clear film coating (which you can also wax) would be a much better alternative in my opinion, if waxing 2 - 3 times a year seem tedious.

I had mine opticoated yesterday. My detailer offered to do Opti/CQuartz/22PLE as he has lots of experience for all three. His experience was that 22PLE was much like CQuartz -- you get a deeper gloss, but the product doesn't seem to last as long. The opti, while still looking good was much more durable and lasting (and has a long history of proven results as stated above). Since the car is my wife's DD, I chose the Opti 2.0.

I watched him apply the product, and must say its very easy to apply, is very obvious when it flashes, and where it might need to be leveled. If the car didn't need some polishing for the inevitable BMW spidering in the clear coat thanks to dealer washes, I would have done it myself.

I did not have it put on the windows, however. My detailer stated that he preferred aquapel for that, and that he didnt like using products in ways they arent advertised. He did state that Opti is working on a glass product. For now I am using Pinnacle Glass Coat.

Did you ever find someone to apply Opti-Coat? I live in the Houston area and I'm a factory authorized installer of Opti-Coat Pro, the professional version of Opti-Coat. The pro version is harder and thicker and is a little more difficult to put on. Contact me at 832-264-0670 if you would like more information.

Not a good idea to apply to the windshield. It works great for a short period of time, but eventually the wipers will wear it off. The makers of Opti-Coat just released a product especially for the windshield and it is amazing.
