B&O question????

So I opted for the B&O system in my car. I am curious as to everyones opinion on the highest quality sources we can play through our system. I assume a CD burned right into the hard drive would be optimal? Lets forget about any radio source because theyre obviously all deficient. Whats your take? Ipod? CD?

Thx

The device is sort of irrelevant - iPod/iPhone, USB, CD...is just the storage medium. It all comes down to the quality of the digital encoding. A quality produced CD, or quality encoding such as lossless or 320Kbps is best.

Ripping a CD to the hard drive in the car may actually be pretty lossy - I thought I read somewhere that the songs are ripped at 192Kbps, which is mediocre. Would love to get confirmation on that.

My preference: Use MOG and download your favorite tunes to your phone. MOG supposedly stores local files at 320Kbps...I think it sounds very good and is exceptionally convenient. There are a couple of minor hiccups with iDrive that they'll hopefully work out with software updates, but overall it works extremely well with the car.

Be sure to physically plug the device in - bluetooth audio is not great.

Party on Wayne

I have a 7th gen 160GB ipod. I have it about 1/4 full with my favorite CD's converted to Apple Lossless.

The sound is fantastic...and I see album covers on the main dash display.

Hi Kerry,

If you want the clearest sound, I would say that you want use AIFF encoding on either a CD or your iPod. It's really important that the source encoding is AIFF or there will be degradation. Understand that even if you rip to CD, if the original source was low fi, it will still sound like crap. Once upon a time I was a into music production and sound engineering, so regardless of what others may say about other formats, they all have some degradation unless a true AIFF file. Some will note this as a drawback because of the size of the files, but that's bs, any other format reduce data info, even lossless formatting, and those with an ear for sound can discern the difference. If I can come out this weekend, I'll bring a few reference CDs to test the system...good luck

iPod classic (160gb) is def the way to ago (assuming you rip at a high bit rate). Very clean and album art is displayed.

iPod and FM in the US sound great...satellite blows, regardless of the EQ settings. Agree with prior post: plug in your device and avoid bluetooth for the better sound.
