It is very rare for a dealer to have an Individual. BMW generally requires dealers to only order Individual models for actual customers. The dealers only have them on the lot when a customer cancels their order.

The only dealer I have ever seen with the odd Individual car in the showroom is Vista Motors which is the largest BMW dealer by volume in the US.

Sorry but that is not true. He can look on http://www.cars.com Right now from my zip code, there are 615 across the states. Here in Houston, there are probably 9 just waiting for someone to buy them.

What you just pointed is the total number of M5s not M5 Individuals. Read the post before posting false info please.

If you don't know what an Individual M5 is - it is one with either a custom order paint job (e.g. frozen) or a custom order interior (denoted by code Z1XX). My car is an M5 Individual model - the Full Platinum/Piano interior was an $8,075 option. Dealers tend to only order cars with standard paints and standard or $3500 full leather but not Individual.

Of these it looks like the only ones which are special order individual as opposed to standard ordering guide individual are the frozen ones. I clicked on the individual interiors and they are all extended leather which is not special order.

That frozen one in fair fax looks really nice but I don't understand why someone would spend 6 figures on a car with a plastic dash and doors.


On another note, I believe that dakota-grade leather dash and door trim will be standard on 2014 F10s because they seem to have made it standard in the Z4 LCI.

So are you talking about cars with the official BMW Individual badge and not cars with Individual Paints, Individual Leathers, and Individual Trims? I'm not sure how special orders fit into the Individual labeling process. I guess if BMW is putting ///Ms all over non-M cars, then selling buyers indivdual items for non-Individual cars is pretty much the same thing.

Badge is irrelevant since badge is optional. It is analogous to calling an M550 or M135 an M Car. It has an M brand but isn't an M car.

It has gotten confusing since BMW is badging premium standard order finishes as Individual.

Piano Black wood trim for instance is a standard order item. It doesn't require an 8 week lead time, or the reservation of a production slot at BMW Individual. It is just a wood trim available on the regular ordering guide which happens to have a $1200 price attached to it. Extended champagne leather is the same way but with a price of $5k. But again it doesn't require an Individual production slot and a long lead time. It can also be ordered via the computer system and doesn't require a special order handling process.

On the other hand if you wanted full champagne that would be a Z1XX order which is a real Individual special order item. That cannot be simply ordered in the system. It requires the dealer to call their regional rep. The rep has to submit a request to BMW Individual in Germany. BMW Individual comes back with a quote. The customer accepts the quote. Then BMW Individual looks for a productions slot for the Idnivdidual finishes, and then assigns that. And this typically adds a ton of time.

And yes - you can have Individual door sills and tunk labeling if you do this, but most people prefer to keep the M badging. Individual is a pretty poor brand to be honest.

The LCI doesnt bother me, but this would. I did not get Full leather because I really didnt want the glove box area in Sakhir Orange, it was just too much Orange to look at for me personally. But I did want a leather dash - I wish you could just opt for a leather dash.

You can order a leather dash on its own. It's option 4M5 and costs $2200.

F me - if im due for a March 23rd ED and car has not gone into production obviously, would adding this option push it back? I've already booked everything so changing timing wouldnt be an option?

A this stage you should be able to fit it in. Call your dealer ASAP.

FYI there are 3 ways to get a leather dash
1) Option 4M5 - just leather dash $2200
2) Full leather - $3500
3) Full Individual leather - $6875

So if you are getting Extended individual, you are better off getting full individual
leather instead of extended +4M5.

In my opinion, the whole point of an individual car is to order something special and unique that YOU really put some thought into and love so much, you felt it was worth the extra $. Trying to find a car that came through the individual program that someone else ordered just to have an individual spec car doesnt make much sense to me. Unless ofcourse you find one that is built exactly how you would have built it. Again, just my opinion.
