I actually went from a 2009 E92 M3...so I was in the same boat as you. As far as the upgrade, for me it was a no-brainer. This car is more powerful (insane torque compared to the E92) and is much more comfortable. The Merino leather makes a difference versus the Novillo leather in the M3. Also, having a HUD, ventilated seats, and other premium options are nice. Oh, and finally, the rear seat passengers no longer hate me on longer trips

If your decision is not driven by need, u will not find the M5 to be more rewarding. I have both and love them both, but they focus on different things. Clearly, the M5 is more focused on luxury, space, and brute force at the expense of precision and sharpness. Not that the M5 is lacking in those area. It's just that it does the other stuffs better. If going fast in the straights while being pampered is what u are after, u will be a very happy man

No brainer. Had an E93 M3 before this. Loved my E93 but this M5 is just in a different class. The interior is wonderful. So much more luxuriously appointed than the 3. Night and day difference. The roominess compared to the 3 is also very welcomed. Especially if you use the backseats. Havent even discussed the power yet as I dont think there is a need to. It's obvious. The car just feels like a mature supersports sedan. I felt slightly boy racerish in my M3 at times.

On another note, I have a friend that went from an M3 to the new M5 and sold it after 3 months. Said it felt to big for him and he had no real need for all the space.

I see your M3 traps 126.7, M5 isn't quite there yet stock. Your M3 will be faster, but M5 can keep up even with passengers in the back
As an all rounder, M5 is just a fantastic daily. Sporty enough to keep me happy, comfortable enough to keep me sane

+1 have both. very different but great cars. M5 is comfort king but also can be mental with so much power on the rear axle. M3 is like a missle and handles so much more rawly. M5 does well to hide its weight but on the edge it appears.

Negatives for new M5: 1. It's big!!!! I hate parking it, entering garages and pulling up to parking spots that have a curb in front. I just haven't gotten a "feel" for how close the nose is to curbs. 2. Front sets don't go back as far as they do in the M3. Stupid but true. 3. You feel more body roll in corners. I did however have H&R springs on my M3 so this may improve once I get springs for the M5. 4. LOVE the DCT Positives for M5. Everything else! But the highlights for me have been: 1. Much quieter hwy cruiser when you want it to be. 2. Much better interior etc. 3. Thrust is addicting. 4. Much better range on a tank of gas. 5. Better stock exhaust note. Overall very happy with my M5. The F30 M3 might just be the best of both worlds!! Stay tuned. (no pun intended) BTW, your 1/4 mile time seems low for an M3 with exhaust and tune. Any other mods on it?

I came from a 2011 E93 M3 and although I absolutely loved that car, the M5 does everything so well in the luxury and performance department. It's a super executive sedan. The one thing that I do miss about my M3 and may ultimately lead me to purchase an M3 as a sibling to my M5 is the nimbleness and the S65 V8 sound of the M3. I'm doing a 2 day M school in April, so I'm excited to see drive both cars at their limits and compare the 2.
You won't be disappointed by the M5, it is a beast!!!!! |

I also have a FBO e92 m3 DCT and the decision really comes down to whether you want a "sports" car or a luxury cruiser. The old decision was much more difficult with the e60 as it was not much bigger than the e90 and the engine delivery was the same etc. I don't even think you can compare these two.
If anyone has Fbo (save convertible guys with 400 extra pounds) you know that if you drive it properly with revs up in 6k and with a DCT, this thing is an absolute rocket ship. If you are a "lazier" driver in terms of not wanting to keep the revs in the 6k range when looking to flog it, for whatever reason, than the m5 will be a great car because you can get thrust at any rpm and any gear. If you are not in the right gear in the m3, the thrust is not there. The F10 is just absolutely huge. I would never give up my e92 for an f10. Maybe add the f10 but stilld ebating |

Had 09 M3, great car..got 13 M5 for me
A world of difference. Comfort, room, performance Etc. please with my decision. Plus I can Take folks in the back seat. Overall it's A keeper. Exhaust note, wish it was deeper. My Merc e63 had the best exhaust sound. Do Miss that. Good luck. Get the M5. Happy motoring |

I have both E90 M3 / F10 M5 and they're both awesome! (E92 m3 prior)
M5 is more luxury/daily. I like the soft close doors, heated/cooled seats, seat massage, night vision, a buncha features that arent' really needed but it's just cool to have. lol and the car isn't bad on gas for being 560hp. (but who buys an M to care?) The only thing I don't like so far is where they put the cup holders. It blocks the controls. Like someone said, the m3 is kinda boy racer. But I like it ![]()

The M5 is an amazing luxury supercar. The M3 is much better sounding and more nimble. The 1M is the most fun. I am amazed by all of them. I will keep all three. As far as overall balance, the 1M is just amazing IMO. There is just no slop in the chassis. It is perfect right from the factory. It feels even lighter than it is especially after driving the M5 as my daily driver. We are really lucky to have cars like these.
