Wink I Plasti-Dipped my M5! Well sort of. Lol!

Lady and Gents,

I got tired and fed up with looking at my door handle chrome on my Triple Black M5 and decided to do something about it. I wanted to take the time to get my door handle chrome wrapped with some matte black 3M wrap, but my schedule is too crazy, and the place I wanted to take it to is too far away and they're only open on week days. So I took matters into my own hands. Went down to Home Depot when I got off of work tonight and then proceeded to apply Pasti-Dip (From Blamo!) on my chrome door handles. I also bought some painters tape and made it so only the chrome on the door handles would be exposed. I then applied 3 coats of Pasti-Dip, waiting 10 mins between each coat. I used a razor blade to seperate the dip that was stuck to the tape from the chrome strip and viola no more chrome! It was my first time Pasti-Dipping something. I've watched some YouTube videos about it and it just seemed like it was time to get with the times, I mean all the kids are doing it now on their Audi A4's and Civics, it's all the rage! It seems to be legit, I just hope that it lasts for a while. If not, then I'll reapply it. The whole job only took me a couple of hours and most of that was just waiting for it to dry.

Well hope you enjoyed the cool story and the pix. Laters!

Nicely done Dave. Pretty cool...definitely not a bad alternative.

To the OP: can you do a close up shot of the handle - particularly the edging?

I have a few cans in my garage and I have been resisting the urge to plasti-dip the heck out of my car, just to see what certain components would look like blacked out, but I thought it would be way too low-class for the M.

You have now convinced me otherwise. This is going to be a fun weekend lol

Haha! Just be sure to make the coatings as evenly as possible. The nozzle that comes with the can is pretty good, but I shoulda got one of those spray handles. They sell them on Amazon for 6 bucks. I was thinking about Plasti-Dipping my wheels with a base matte black and then spraying them with a silver metalizer in order to try and make them look hyper-silver. However, after looking at them last night I decided to leave the wheels alone. Or maybe I'll just powdercoat them silver later on. Not that expensive from what I hear, maybe only $300 bucks for 4 wheels.

Bright shiny wheels? Are you sure?

Yeah. The wheels need to stand out more on the Sapphire Black Metallic in my eye. I like the stock finish on almost every other color for the F10 M5. If you look at the bright silver finish of the stock E60 M5 wheels against SBM, the wheels really stand out and looks a lot better, at least to me. That is the scheme I would like. The brushed finished of the 20" wheels on the F10 don't stand out enough. They're a little too dark at times. On your Silverstone II though, they look perfect! Weirdly enough, I think the brushed finished looks amazing with Sakhir Orange exterior paint. I would never murder out the stock 20's on a Sakhir Orange F10 M5. But that's just me, makes it look too pumpkiny in my opinion. Here's a good comparison. Brushed wheels fit certain color cars better, while silver ones fit others better.

See the silver finish with the Morr Wheels Sapphire Black Metallic on the F10 M5!

Next notice how the silver finish on the Alpine White F10 M5, with the Winter Wheels stands out more. Looks great!

And the Sakhir Orane with the brushed finish. The shininess of the wheels compliment the color perfectly!

And last check out this Audi S7 with Silver finished wheels. Notice how it they really stand out from the black exterior color.

All just my eye, but you can look how good they look!

Thanks guys! I love both of your cars too! Rpm, I completely agree with you about the stock 20's looking great with some colors and not so great with others. With my color (azurite) the stock wheels just looked "dirty", for lack of a better word. No pop whatsoever. On some other colors they look amazing!

Dave, how are the door handles holding up? Any chipping or peeling?

They are holding up pretty good actually. They've been through almost half a dozen washes now and some rain and mud last night. I do need to apply another coat to one of the handles because I didn't hit it enough with one of the coats, but otherwise they are doing very well. So far I've gotten a few notices and compliments on them too. I tell people it's Plasti-Dip and they're like what?! Haha!
