Cool BMW Driving Instructor Will Attempt to Crush Drifting World Record in BMW M5 (F10)

BMW Driving Instructor Will Attempt to Crush Drifting World Record in BMW M5 (F10)

COMMENTS

On May 11, 2013, BMW Performance Driving Instructor Johan Schwartz will have a go at beating the Guinness Book of World Record for the world's longest drift, while driving one of the BMW Performance Center's M school cars - a F10 M5.

The attempt will be made on the BMW Performance Center skid pad - the same one used to teach skid techniques at the BMW driving schools. And the factory M5 is one of the most fitting BMW models for this attempt, as its 560hp and 502 lb-ft torque easily breaks the rear end traction of the RWD sedan loose.

The current world's longest drift record which Schwartz has to beat is 19,035 feet (nearly 3.6 miles), set Sept. 30, 2011 in China.

Check out the teaser video below.

That's awesome! I've met Johan at a 2-day school event and I can attest from first hand experience that he's an incredible driver! Wish him luck, hope he crushes it!

Good Luck Johan!

I believe the actual drifting attempt will be made on a dry skid pad. It's possible they were just filming on the wet skid pad.

He is planning to drift 40 miles? Huh? How would the tires not burn off the car well before then? They're DEFINITELY going to be using a wet circle if they're planning on going that long. I imagine that would take a couple hours.

This shouldn't be called drift. It's just having fun on a wet circle. And it looks quite boring.

"Under GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS rules, any type of vehicle may be used for an attempt with a drift defined as being performed when there is a speed differential between the driven wheels of the vehicle and its ground speed."

Interesting rules here...

So will the tires go 40 miles on a wet pad? The C63 tires blew out in a little over a mile, but that was dry.

Guys, it's 4 miles...not 40. Although the post above says new record is 11km, which is almost 7 miles.

You're right. Now I'm confused too. Old record was 3.6 miles. Now they are going to "crush" that with FORTY!?

Wow. How does that work?
