AMS catless downpipe dyno! (peak power figure of 586 horsepower at the wheels)

After an extended stay in California after the BimmerFest show, IND’s M5 finally returned to Chicago this past Monday. All of us at IND were eagerly anticipating it’s return, and took off to the Dynojet at AMS Performance to finally test the AMS catless downpipes.

Although our M5 has been a test subject for quite a few dyno runs already, the excitement to hear the car spin the rollers with a fully catless setup was almost palpable. The car started with it’s usual roar, and within a few minutes we were off and testing.

As predicted, the catless downpipes coupled with an Eisenmann Race exhaust system have given the car a very healthy increase in power. Our dyno results should not come as a surprise to any owners of catless F10 M5s, but are rather a confirmation of what most already know- the AMS catless downpipes completely transform the car! Our testing found a peak power figure of 586 horsepower at the wheels! We’ve overlaid this new test run over our original baseline run with a 527 wheel horsepower result- the power gain is impressive throughout the RPM range.

Current performance mods
AMS Performance catless downpipes
Eisenmann Center pipes
Eisenmann Race 4x102mm tips
GruppeM intake

You can view our original baseline dyno testing of the car as it was delivered from BMW by following this link:

Here is a price breakdown on the parts that we have installed. The downpipes catless or catted make a world of difference on the S63tu so you could always start with the downpipes only.

Eisenmann Race 4x102mm tips = $4150.00
Eisenmann center pipes = $2599.00
AMS catless downpipes = $1799.00
GruppeM intake = $3495.00

Very nice. I suspect the down pipes are responsible for the bulk of these gains. The exhaust is likely less than 15% of the difference.

I believe I will love the downpipes and the horsepower boost they give, but is there a reason that AMS placed the downstream O2 bung so far from the location of the stock bung on the stock downpipe? I've read that the sensor cable does reach, but it does make the install more difficult. I know it would entail a second welding jig, or modifying the existing jig, but for the catless downpipes the bung location makes no difference. Why not place that second bung more conveniently on the catless dps? Or, a possibility I suppose, did the owner complaining of the cable length just route the cable improperly?

Oh, just thought of this. Since the Beast is back from ESS now, does that mean that ESS is close to being able to produce a tune for sale? Any preview of what that tune might include........ such as: speed limit delete, exhaust related CEL gone, or various HP levels of the tune?
