F10 M5 Ring Taxi crashed...

BIMMERPOST

Quote:
Reports (and these shocking photos) are just coming in that the latest Nordschleife closure today did involve the famous BMW Ring Taxi. The exact circumstances aren't immediately clear, but thankfully it would appear that nobody was seriously hurt.

This isn't the first time the BMW Ring Taxi has made headlines on BTG by crashing in the wet, but I'm sure all BTG fans hope that the paying customers were unhurt. The new M5s used by BMW are pretty impressive beasts when they're on the track. This photo goes to show that they're not too bad in an impact either.

BTGers who know the circuit, and know that car, will agree with me when I say that the M5 could have been travelling in excess of 180kmh (113mph) around the first left-hander after the Karussell.

More news as it arrives...

I was in the M5 taxi at the Performance School and the guy spun it on the fast banked corner. Was pretty scary. I can't imagine being in this car. Note to self: never take ring taxi on wet track.

Being made of titanium, I expect nothing else to survive on the car but the exhaust.

Yes it is. They must be "sponsored" so to say because the ring taxi shop is filled with info on the exhaust. Great way to advertise.

i just looked at the pic and noticed the man w/ the gotee on the right was prob the driver. He looks like one of the drivers the day i was there.

Hmm I have been in the market for a Tricycle with a muffler. A very nice muffler.

The exact reason why I am always skeptical of sitting in a car getting "pushed to the limit". Any mistake / deviation from standard conditions; a car as good as these German rockets of today have a very fine line with physics.

Moreover these are paying customers... I'm guessing BMW makes them sign liability waivers stating they cannot sue in the event of an accident?

Hope everyone is ok!
