The ones I took out we're non- LCI and pretty stiff. I agree that this would probably be inadvisable with the weaker slats on the LCI. But the only real possibility of damage is on the removal. The insertion of the new grills is just a push and snap in, same as would be done in any dealer. So if you're removing OEM non-LCI or after-market non-LCI it may be a different decision process for you.

I understand the reluctance to try this and I shared it initially. But after looking at how the new grills are engineered and imagined what would happen with force applied, and how others have had success with the "incorrect" method, I gave it a shot. I was frankly stunned at how easy it was.

I agree with other's statements that this is a higher risk method and so if you're looking for zero risk I wouldn't recommend it. All I know is that it worked for me.
