I have both cars 550i Dinan stage 2 and M5 LCI and I can say that 550i is really fast too and I am not surprised that it can be as fast with a tune! Last time I drove it to BMW for an inspection for a possible buyer I was really surprised how fast it is even compared to M5!! And has its own way of handling like a luxury refined car and now I understand BMW engineers why they made it this way!! because it will appeal to a lot more people for sure because most people are not enthusiasts like us!!
For me M5 is not about speed or even status like some people think though I do care about these but what comes first is being and feeling ONE with the car!! Not sure how to express it but I never felt one with 550i always disconnected from the car but M5 is all about connectedness if that makes any sense and mostly won't unless you are an M5 owner or M3 or even M5 owner!! Not even test drive gets you there because it is like a relationship that gets better with time!!
They are in 2 completely different categories and I will be surprised that they will appeal to same person!!
