I've told a lot of people this already, but the way I see it is if someone offered me a $200k a year job but I have to live on the East Coast, versus a $100k a year job but I get to live in Southern California, I'll take the California job. You only get one go at life, why spend it in a place that doesn't suit you? Even if all of your family is one place, that's why they invented the jet airplane for you to fly from Cali to every place else to visit your family and when you get to see the relatives, you get to tell them how happy you are living in SoCal. For me my only other real option was to move to Germany, but that is easier said than done, especially when you still have to work for a living.

I hear you. I love SoCal. But for what I do there are very few places I can move to. I will have to totally change my career to make this switch and not really in a place yet to do that. But never say never. I have hope.
