Nobody intelligent should cross shop an M5 with an M4/M2. Its pretty obvious a smaller car is going to be more fun to drive and better on the twisty country roads. Also between those 2 you are probably better off with the M2. The M4 is a car which makes no sense - it has the inconvenience of 2 doors, without any performance advantage over the M3.
You buy an M5 because you need a big 4 door saloon car in the family, and you want one which is also exceptionally fun to drive.
I sold my M5 to get out while the resale values are still decent ahead of the new body style launch. But our C300 is a temporary car until I can get a bigger performance sedan. Will be looking at both the AMG E-Class and the Panamera S for delivery early next year.
