You cannot recess them. That typically compromises the performance. I had that issue on my 2013 M5 initially - the car was susceptible to shots on the hood at closer range.
The rear radar antenna is located underneath the bodywork below the rear wing assembly. It is hidden behind the plastic part of the bumper. Since the rear bumper is plastic and the paint is non-metallic it shouldn't affect range. However there is nowhere else to put it on the 911.
