Do you think if you pulled over immediately after getting the "low oil" sign, ignition off, opened your trunk, poured a quart in(is it possible/bad in a hot engine?), and sat there that the engine could've survived? I'd assume the engine quits oil circulation when turned off
Well the whole thing happened in about 30 seconds! The moment the low oil popped up I left off the gas and was just coasting, thinking what the hell is going on it was just serviced how can it need oil already! then thought should I come off this exit or go on to the next services! then I pulled over and stopped and then engine died when I came to a halt.

So not sure if I could have saved it! didn't know that was the problem! when I stopped I figured maybe the sump plug had come loose (happened to a friend on his 320d that was serviced at the same dealer once).

I think the odds of this happening ever again to anyone are one in a million! as how the nail got through the grill i'll never know! so I wouldn't worry too much
