Some M5's just don't like intakes. I did some reading on this a while ago and the remedy was that some cars have old software on board. If your boy does get a software update and it still throws a code then his options are (1) Project Gamma intakes (have yet to see or read of anyone throwing a code (2) K&N or BMC Panel Filters with Air Scoops.
