That is true, but waze is incredibly popular with about 2.1 million users per month in the UK.
I've been using it a few years and I've never had to report a speed camera, pothole or vehicle in the road someone else has already done it. I simply click the button that says 'Still here' or 'no longer here'.
I've just purchased one of the Android auto/carplay boxes to allow full screen apps on the built in display - this makes it even better.
The image below is a random small section of the a1, probably half a mile long. You can see 8 other drivers using waze.
