Page 208 of the US owners manual, says to only charge the battery via the starting aid terminals, otherwise known as the remote terminals under the hood. This is also the only place to jump start the vehicle should you need to do so, as well. When you have a remote battery and remote battery terminals, this is always where you want to charge or jump the battery.

In my C6 Z06 Corvette, it was actually designed to be charged either at the remote terminals under the hood or the 12V socket in the dash, but most vehicles are not designed this way (hot 12V socket,) and this is usually not what you want to do; BMW manual specifically says not to do this in our vehicles.
