Thanks for this, it makes perfect sense but I've never come across them before. My 11/2012 build M5 doesn't have them, and the replacement pads don't have them. Why would they be on some M5 and not others?
My service manager told me that the electronic pad wear sensors will indicate pad replacement at about 3mm of pad thickness.
