You're lucky that you did not get the presumably defective oil pump. Any car production system will have individual inventory of each oil pump that went into each car so they can tell which car will have that representative oil pump. It would be much more dificult to test each oil pump whether or not it is defective than to just replace oil pumps of those cars that were from the same batch (or source). Your car's oil pump may not have been from the batch deemed defective.
