A lot of people are driving around in a second hand M5, so I'm not so sure I would feel inferior if I were to drive a 2018 550i since that's the best new 5 series on the market.
When the new M5 comes out then it's another story. That's why I don't think it's a bad idea to lease a 550i and then switch over to a new LCI M5 sometime in 2020.
However, with that said I would still probably pick the F10 M5 over the 2018 550i if I were to shop for one today.
