Sounds like you are describing the DCT gearbox. It has a whine not dissimilar to a straight-cut gear gearbox from a racing car. Had the same with my E91 M3. Personally, I love it, as it serves as a reminder that you aren’t driving a poxy 520d, you’re driving a brute.
