Well to be more precise it's not that they are biased because they own one. It's that they bought one because their tastes lead them to an M5.
This is an important difference. Self-selection and bias are not the same thing.
The problem is that there a few less illuminated people who buy not based on self-selection but based on what they read. These people often end up in the wrong car and then put it up for sale a few months later.
