Don't suppose anyone has a how to on taking the centre console apart to check these connectors?

A long shot but a possibility is that someone has previously taken apart the center console, and not plugged the harness connectors for the drivelogic buttons and the rear seat heater buttons back in. I'm not sure if the seat heater buttons have connectors separate from the rear climate control, and you didn't mention whether the HVAC controls worked or not. Something to keep in mind.

ISTA+ can be used to test whether the buttons work by monitoring their status while pushing and releasing. If you or a friend has such a setup it can be tested at home. Otherwise, an independent BMW shop is a good alternative to diagnose it because none of this type work requires a dealer and you have no warranty anyway to worry about.
