I went stage 2 and got a drive train malfunction. I was also around 73k miles. After researching many sites I too was stuck with your question.
I ended up buying 1 coil and after moving the original coils around and changing the plugs, I ended up not needing the extra coil. If money wasn't an issue, I'd do both though.
