There is a plug at the bottom of the oil filter housing that lets you drain the oil filter before removal. You can still change oil without removing that plug but it can get messy. Make sure to have the proper metric Allen bit.

I was not aware of this. This will definitely cut down on the mess.
Are you saying this plug is on top of the cap on the filter housing? Got a picture?
