Apparently, the newest gen of iDrive is called iDrive 4.2.
On the Nav, it has 3D city models and has general "Virtual 3D" graphics.
Text dictation for composing emails and SMS text messages only works on some phones (i.e. NOT on the iPhone, etc.).

www.bmwusa.com/bluetooth one can see what phones are “Office” compatible, specifically with “Sending emails” and “Sending SMS” availability.
