I am looking at OEM replacement and hoping to get feedback on OEM parts (~$200) vs. aftermarket (IND) and the entire process. Unfortunately I could find no data / videos on the DIY process on an F10, let alone an M5.

I'm based in NJ.
I assume you're talking about the 6 speed knob and boot? If so, it's pretty straight forward and easy. Pull up on the boot near the outside edges to get it to release from the center console. You will find a thin 2 wire connector for the lighted part. Simply unplug it. The hard part can be removing the knob. All you have to do is pull straight up with a good amount of force. A little twisting, and I mean a little, might help. Don't try to twist/spin too far or the piece that keep the knob from turning while installed will break off. It's only plastic.
