I think the older forums are eventually turned off as interest in a platform wanes. Which makes sense, you don't want ghost towns everywhere
I suspect in a year or two the F10 M5 forums will be cut down to a single general forum for the car.mkoesel correct?

Not necessarily. Technically there are still E39 and E60 forums:

I think the F10 M5 may have a bit more staying power just due to the power for $$ this platform provides. you can pick up 2013's w/ higher mileage for mid 20's. That's going to be very appealing to some folks.
