F10 M5 front bumper and power dome revealed!!!!!
As reported on 5POST homepage.
Here's the first ever photos of the F10 M5 with uncovered front bumper and hood power dome! Yesterday we brought you photos of an M5 with a fabric front bra, but it has now been removed to reveal what you see below! The design seems to follow that of the M3's front fascia. So... what do you think?! As for the engine, this may disappoint some here, but the latest speculation is that the new 4.4L twin turbo from the X6 and X5 M will be used in the new M5. |

What does the power dome mean? Isn't it on the M3 because they couldn't fit the engine under the hood? If its a V8 TT, it would fit under the F10 hood, no?
Or am I completely wrong? |

I am starting to get excited because this looks like it could actually be naturally aspirated which would be awesome (I always thought they should do a direct injected, high-revving engine in M cars before going to turbo charging since it would give the boost in performance and efficiency).
The reason I say it looks like it is naturally aspirated is because it looks like the cooling system is only a radiator up front and no visible intercooler. Thoughts? |

I wouldn't say that it borrows on the M3 front, we all know the M3 borrowed on the M6...
However, the dome is a good sign that they're going to be making the new M5 more pronounced than a regular 5-series. The dome on the M3 is there for looks, it was there for looks on the E46 as well, not b/c of the V8. I doubt the dome is more than just cosmetic. Hopefully they'll be putting in a TT V10 and not the same engine from the X5/6 M. The rear brake caliper is awfully small to be on an M. But who knows, maybe that's needed for the ceramic rotors. |

People all talked trash about the E9x M3 before it came out and now people love it. Same thing with the E60 M5. This one could surprise people. I'm hoping that it does and that'll get me to stay with BMW rather than get a P-Car. |

The dome on the e46 M3 was for the EGR valve in between the manifold and the valve cover. It worked out well (cause it looks cool), but anyone who uses a regular e46 hood on an M3 will tell you the clearance is much closer to the valve.
That is also why a regular strut brace for a Z4 will not fit a s54 Z4 car. I am thinking two different engines and they still cant decide which one to use. Man, talk about cutting it down to the wire. BMW still needs time to get with suppliers and budget forecasts for MY production. They should have been done with an engine decision by now....unless this is the Hydrogen powered M5....

2 choices in the M5, if AMG did it with the S63 and S65, why not BMW?

I thought the dome on the current M3 was so it could fit the large air box? |

woah! lookout! That test mule grew a power dome overnight!!! I hope it's contagious - my e91 could use one.
Sarcasm aside, I think it might be to throw people off the trail. Given the pattern on both cars, I'm virtually certain it's the same car.

You can see the little red BBS sticker on the inside of the rear wheel in the first picture.
Nice wheels! I wish the brakes were dressed up a little more since they are so exposed. Looks like there isn't a sunroof on this one, and the finish is different on the roof than the rest of the car. Hopefully someone can get in close enough to see if they are already putting CF roofs on them. It still might be possible that they choose to make that standard, and make the sunroof optional.

I'm eager to see it closer to production form. Can't help but expect big things given the advancement from e39 --> e60 versions of the m5.

This is a bit strange. I would assume that the F10 5 Series has an interior closely related to the new 5 Series GT, shown below:
However, these shots clearly show a "double hump" design a la E60/E9X. I sure hope the double hump is now there to say. I am not a big fan.

If it s a turbo engine no thank you very much. Turbo powered engines you can buy everywhere. Jap cars have them it s nothing special anymore.
The M5 should have 9000 rpm 550hp 10cil atmo engine that sets youre hair on fire. Not some tune up AG engine with a hairblower on it. Sad sad sad. |
