P3Cars M5 Install

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
I decided to try out the p3cars unit. Install took only about 10 minutes or less.
Here is how I installed it. You could just tuck everything inside and be done, but thats not what I did. I used two white zip ties to bundle the small and large cables together (use one as a hook); then a blue zip tie to float the cables and connectors. This way there is no chance of rattling. Bundled and stored the ribbon cable separately (tucked behind the first bundle after I took the photo).

I took a quick 3 minute drive and it seems to work pretty well. The only functions I liked was coolant temp, intake temp, current rpm/shift light, ignition timing, and battery voltage. I'm not sure if boost readings are all that accurate? Maybe it was in bar instead of PSI.. I'll have to take another look.

Anyone else give this a try?

Here is how it's installed (outside black cable runs along seams/panels to OBD2)

Here is the unit installed and in "dark mode"..

Unit is off..

Unit is on..

Several other members have the P3 gauge installed or the version supplied by Turner Motorsport (http://www.turnermotorsport.com/t-P3-Vent-Gauge.aspx) as it adds two more settings in the software.
As you seem to have the standard vent installed you may want to move the silver vent plate from your OEM vent into the P3 vent. Also if you don't have a vent with a light for the dial you can move the dial from your old OEM vent to the new P3 vent.

I was sitting there trying to figure out what the electrical plug was for. Never thought about the light on vent. Going to buy the turner one though (just don't like all the logos).

Does turner's steel vent come with a light? Or is this DIY all the way?

I am not sure, I'd hope it comes with a light as it's the "upgraded" vent anyways
I'd probably call them just to be sure . They're great guys and very helpful.
Worst case swapping the light will take ~10 minutes
