2017 Audi Q7
For all the luxury the M5 has, the back seats are lacking for long trips and 4 tall individuals. Don't even make the joke about 5 passengers... This is problematic when we are hosting 2+ guests and want to run around together.
We've now cross shopped the X5M and the Porsche Cayenne Turbo, but neither improved upon the second row experience. My wife and I tried a new 2017 Q7 Prestige out on Saturday.... this will make our 4th vehicle if we close the deal on it this week. [No. I will not be trading in the M5.] There are plenty of reviews out there for it for those that wish to watch a full detailed review. Here is one that I liked a little more than the others: The main take away I will share:

Saw one in real life last week. Comes across as somewhere in between an SUV and a station wagon.
I was not impressed.

Tough when they blur the styling lines between a traditional SUV, a crossover, and an estate/wagon. I can tell you from sitting and driving it that it is no station wagon in terms of interior space.
Dealership is playing a game with me at this point over $500...so we'll just have to wait and see if it is meant to be. |

I always thought the original version in 'S-Line' guise looked pretty damn good for an SUV. This new version, which I was actually anxiously awaiting is just fugly IMHO. I couldn't give a damn how good it drove; I wouldn't be seen dead in it.

The amount of space available is insane. Even with the last 2 seats up, there's still a generous amount of cargo space left. All that while loosing so much weight. This car is a winner in my book!

The exterior design is a step back...........BUT I might forgive it depending on how Audi executes the upcoming SQ7 Diesel model.
VAG is apparently working on a new 4.0 Diesel engine (to replace the current 4.2 liter V8 diesel). That upcoming engine could also provide power to a future Cayenne S Diesel model (for Europe, South Africa, Australia and ROW) so we'll see how it goes. |

I picked it up yesterday evening after reaching agreement on price with the salesman. "We normally get MSRP on a new model like this. I've never seen this good of a deal before."
Sure....whatever. I followed my wife driving it to dinner. The Prestige model we purchased has the 4 wheel steering and air ride w/height adjustment with a bunch of other packages. She made a U-turn at a light to get to the restaurant and it was able to turn in > 2 lanes. Pretty sweet. After seeing it again and following it down the road last night, I am convinced no one is going to mistake it for a wagon. It is still a big vehicle to see ...especially in Glacier White. I am not thrilled about 21" (285/40) from a practicality standpoint because it is hard to find much in the way of tire options, but they do look good on it. I will say that I am glad that Audi went to a stronger packaging model. Back in 2008 when we shopped a Q7, it felt like "everything was an option" which was a negative experience for us as we did not want to special order. We ended up getting a new Infiniti QX56 instead. Of course, at delivery they had it in the delivery dock next to a red R8 just to entice me. I will post some pictures after it stops raining and I get home from business travel. |

It's a nice car. We were looking at that and XC90. Ended up getting XC90 because of the interior (have T8 inscription with amber interior which is dead drop gorgeous). The tech in Q7 is pretty awesome and interior is very roomy.

Thanks for sharing. I'm in a similar position. My wife and I are looking to get an SUV, which will require adequate room for a baby/toddler seat in the back. Options we're considering include the German selections, the XC 90, and offerings from Range Rover. I've always had a good experience with BMW, and the the transactions have been mostly painless. However, I'm not sure how spacious the X5(M) or X6(M) options are for the baby/toddler seat. Based on your comments, it seems the Q7 provides more room. I'm not crazy about Audi/VW (though I do own an Audi), but will give the Q7 a look. Does anyone know where the extra length goes with a long wheelbase Range Rover? Is is mostly in the rear storage, or do you get more leg room in the rear?
