Anyone switched from an M4 to an M5?
What are your thoughts about it?
I currently have a convertible 2018 M4 Competition with the M Performance exhaust and I absolutely love the looks and the sound on that MPE but I also like the better interior quality on the M5 and especially the Bang & Olufsen sound system compared to the Harman/Kardon I know the M5 has more power but how does that translate in real world driving? do you feel the extra power when accelerating from a standpoint vs an M4 or is it just more HP at higher speeds and the lowdown torque in relation to the extra weight doesn't give you that extra umphhh? I love the looks on the M4 more to be honest but something inside makes me feel like the M5 is the more practical beast and I do like the fact that you can get the rear entertainment package for passengers in the back, more bells and whistles like night vision cameras and whatnot... don't know if it has massaging seats like the 7 series though... anyway, anyone made this switch cares to share their 2 cents on this?

M5 is significantly faster than M4 Convertible both from standstill and on rolling.
The look is subjective but as you mentioned the interior quality of M5 is much better than M4. Seats are a lot more comfortable and has 20 way adjustment. I highly recommend the Full leather because it's so nice!

I have never owned M4 but have driven it extensively on track in BMW school. For daily use (city and freeway) I think the M5 is much better. More luxurious interior and broad powerband.

I went from 20k miles in an F10 M5 to 30k miles in my M4.
Thoughts, slower from a roll than the 5 but better gas milage was getting 24+MPGS spacing out on cruising, 17-19 was my tops on the 5. Way worse sounding, the exhaust is god awful on the M3/M4s compared to a TT v8 with exhaust, I've been told that the M4 with competition package helps. Has less detachment from the driving experience as it should being a smaller lighter car, but still has plenty of that vs. other cars in its class (not so much german cars as they all tend to do this now). |

from e46 m3/m4 concurrently to an m5..... m5 is ALOT bigger. think about if you want an old 7 series body length car (it is, i had an 01 740iL).
the 46 was a go kart, the m4 was a bloated pig, the m5 is a HOUSE. i love it for the street tho, its a great DD and weekend toy if you can only have one. m5 is leagues faster, especially after 100mph. |

I just made the switch about 6 months ago. Traded my M4 for the M5. The inside of the car is A LOT better. It feels a lot more comfortable and luxurious. I got the M5 with full leather, so it feels a lot more rich. The sound system is a ton better.
The one thing is that the M4 is louder, especially with the MPE. The M5 I got has an MPE as well. I do enjoy the Deep V8 sound that it produces more than the loud M4 scream. One thing that I missed was the Manual Transmission on my M4. So i got a Shelby GT350 to make up for that. The M5 has a lot of power and my opinion is that the M5 feels lighter than the GT350, because of the amount of torque it has, especially on the low rpms. The M5 spins tires in 3rd gear going 60mph. Scary and very cool at the same time. I like the M5 a lot more than the M4, but that is also because I got the M5 fully loaded with MPE, which I did not have on the M4. So all the extra buttons make me like it that much more. Really can't go wrong with either car, but they are completely different beasts. My friend currently has a f83 M4, which he lets me drive quite often. So this way I can always compare the two cars, one after the other. He also has the MPE exhaust on it. The M4 is more nimble, but the M5 just feels like a very luxurious Monster. The seats are way more comfortable as well in the M5.

I am loving the sound of the Competition Package burbles coupled with the MPE but obviously, we generally are never satisfied and want the next big thing.... I plan to order an F90 M5 in the future but am not in a rush so I will probably wait for the Competition Pack F90

I love the look of the M4 vert---- there is something to my eye with the top is up that I like almost better than the coupe version (I had one). Yes its not as luxurious as the M5 but it serves different purposes. If you want to get it a little faster, the VF tune is safe and cheap and gets you a nice bump in hp and tq for 1200 bucks or so. (I think your car is heavily modded though).
