ED car wash or detail location
Since most of us will be at least driving our M5 for few days, getting the car dirty will be inevitable.
Any one has experience or known any good detailed or cash wash place in Munich? It will be a good idea to at least wash out m5 before shipping it back home.

There is a nice self-serve wand type car wash at the AGIP gas station on the perimeter road leading to the Munich airport/Log-in-Out. Couldn't be more convenient; use euro coins or a cc

Thanks for the info. This may be a stupid question, especially since I travel abroad a lot (but have never needed to fill up gas), I have heard that Americans often have issues with credit cards at gas stations in Germany/Europe. Are you aware of anything special that had to be done to get gas abroad or is it just like in the States (slide your card and fill up)?

Note: some US banks have international ATM fees so the above advice may be moot. dk

I actually pay very little fees:
1) Charles Schwab reimburses ATM fees including international ones. Further they offer very good rates on ATM withdrawals. 2) Amex has no foreign transaction fees and offers fair market rates on the Centurion, Platinum and Corporate AMEX cards. So I use those and leave the Chase Visa at home. If people don't take Amex they usually don't get my business.

I filled up my 550i at a Shell in Germany somewhere between Munich and Garmisch using an Amex.

I can't tell because the car was detailed by the BMW Performance Center before being re-delivered to me.

If so, know that most of the locations can do it the old-way without the Chip+PIN card, but worst case you might have to 'teach' the teller how to swipe. (funny but not kidding). |

Here is a list of credit cards with no foreign transaction fee. I already have the Platinum Amex from this list, but I am going to get a Visa/Mastercard with no foreign fees given the issues raised in this thread.

99% of all automated washes in germany use brushes. mainly because of the winters. hand wash not much better as they reuse towels. i suggest if you are really worried about it, to buy yourself some Griots Garage waterless car wash and their car wash microfiber towels. haven't had any issues using this product on the dirtiest of cars with dark paint. just use generous amount of wash.
Gas stations on autobahns all take credit cards. small town stations usually do as well but some only take the cc with a chip in them. still, its always better to have cash on hand. full tank will be about 100€.

Remember it's a 80l tank so it's rather in the ballpark of 120-130€.
Best regards, south
