Missing authentic details
Featured on BIMMERPOST.com I'm driving the f10 M5 for a while now ( 430 km ) and I've noticed some things I want to share with you. I want to know If I am the only one who misses those details. Especially the E39 had some hidden details who made me fall in love with the car. 1. Why don't we have the oval mirror anymore? It was so "M". 2. No chrome door pins as in the E39 3. The lights on the rev counter when the car was cold....those were so sexy.. |

I dunno if those are really authentic/signature M5 details. The totally rounded mirrors were only on the last two generation M5's. The e28 and e34 M5 didn't have rounded mirrors at all. Plus I quite like how the f10 m5 mirrors are. They're sort of rounded but with a nice sharp crease.
Chrome door lock pins I'm sure will be a cheap aftermarket item you can buy. Over time you'll probably find little touches and features on your F10 M5 that you think are their own signature or authentic things too. I just wish I already had my own M5 to explore like that. |

1. Oval mirror was nice to look at but terrible in application. blind spot in mirror to side mirror transition. Frankly they were too small and it was corrected in E60. E60 "normal" mirror is not as pretty as E39 but i don't get into as much trouble with cars in blind. 2. Overrated. again, they looked nice and fancy but over time, they start to degrade. 3. Those lights on rev counter were sexy and i wish we can have it back but we have something similar in E60. Rev counter needle moves as engine warms up and i guess something along that line in F10. Not the same but E39 was all about the little things. E60 and others are all about the engine. No one cares anymore for the look. I still think the side mirrors on E39 look the best. |

As BMW becomes more mainstream there will be less quirky things.
Still wish the central door locks was not in the middle of the air vents, why not or each front door?? That is def still quirky. |

But I guess that's impossible these days with all the new buttons needed on the center console for idrive, traction control, cameras, drive modes, etc. |
