drove competition pack today
Featured on BIMMERPOST.com I felt the steering was improved (marginally) over the 2013 pre march builds but not sure if that was bc of the CP or the improvements made after march builds. Power difference was imperceptable. Not sure if the CP is worth it for everyday use, just my opinion. Unless ofcourse you really like the new wheels. For what its worth. |

I was considering making the move to a CP - thanks for the review. May I ask, was this test drive at a dealership? I inquired just today about a test drive at my dealership and was denied.

yes this is a great question---- did you push the car to understand and enjoy the perf pack adds? How about the suspension? Tighter, firmer, did you get to take it into turns? I ask because here in Cali they are limited and dealers arent always apt to allowing test drives if the car is in the showroom.

The competition pack wheels are 5.5lbs heavier than the 343 20's and they are cast not forged. Something to think about when and if someone orders the competition package.

yes i did WOT. trust me, it was not noticeable at all the difference. My test drive was at a dealer. I'm not trying to rip or destroy peoples choices. I for one would not do it. It is WAY to similar to justify the unbelievable cost.
This is how it breaks down. If you want the CP and want the new wheels so that people know you have CP, then go for it. If you want the CP bc it will be better you are wasting your money big time. the normal 20's are nicer and this package is not worth it. Its a lot of money. I, for one, will order without and never look back. |

This does not surprise me at all. I mean this is a 2.5% power increase which is attained at over 6000 rpm!
If you want power don't buy CP, buy Switzer.

Interesting topic attended M school today, and the instructors were talking about the CP. First thing said 15 HP's will not get noticed, and not much by them along with the current has more than enough power when you can use it. These guys drive the s--t out of these cars daily. Did a hot lap with a deal driver, and guess what I don't need nor use all the power I have now. Learned a big lesson today don't be a power fool because you can't use all of it, and it's a cash register for the car manufacture. I drove the crap out of those cars today, and I appreciate my beast a little more.

I'm kind of glad these negative CP reviews keep coming out... It has confirmed for me that I will not be ordering the CP and saving some money. And I guess it's also a positive for the people who bought the 2013. Aside from LED lights, and side bolsters (I know, sore subject) BMW didn't make some sort of crazy improvement to the 2014 M5 making your cars are now obsolete...

Was considering getting rid of my 2013 for 2014 with CP but after all these reviews, I've changed my mind. I will personally drive a 2014 CP myself but does not look promising.

I did not, I was speaking to the M drivers and they all BMW's and they're professional race car drivers with over 10000 track hours. It's marketing dude to sell cars, and I agree with the strategy hell sell as many as you can. You have some on this board that have traded up, and 2015 it will be something else to make you trade up. My M5 will stay put for 5 years unless something knocks off my socks. Hell may just get another Porsche at least I know they want make some weird changes like BMW. I have six BMW's and they are notorious for this bate and switch I just not been bated yet. Love the M though. 7k for items they had in the shop all along yeah right.

Guys, I disagree and agree at the same time...I have a '14 with a comp pack and there are a lot of things I love about it. Having had a '13, this one sounds substantially better but still can be quite enough with clients in the car. The lower suspension makes the car look much better. The power increase is a joke...we all know that M Division can get much more out of this engine so why waste time with 15 HP. My car is Singapore Grey so the black chrome tips look incredible with the Color. I have the standard 343's and will be having them painted in Black Chrome as well. Is $7300 justifiable? Maybe not but we are buying a $115,000 car. Lets not get carried away with nickle and diming the package..

On a second note...if you have the choice between CCB and Comp Pack...CCB is the clear choice...that changes everything about driving the car...I went to track days at COTA and the CCB cut brake time by over half with no fade or shutter

Maybe on a 30 lap run you might see that, but not on 8 laps. I think they deliberately provided M5s with old brakes to emphasize the benefit of the brand new CCBs. The CCBs do provide slightly more braking power (not double) and are better on long-runs (30 laps not 8). Most drivers won't materialize the benefit. However the CCB benefit is more tangible than the CP benefit.

Granted, most of us will never do this - but then it's impossible to drive any F10 M5 at 9/10ths on standard roads where you'd really benefit from its capabilities - CP or not. Since we're barely tapping into it's capability regardless, logic would dictate buying a 535d. At the end of the day, it's not logic that drives the decision to buy a super-sedan like the M5 - it's emotion/passion - the mental happiness that comes from knowing how much power lies within the beast, even if we rarely unleash it. From that perspective, CP makes no less sense than buying the car in the first place. As an aside - any Jalops in here? Every time I see "CP" I think "crack pipe"! |
