M5 Rim and Tire insurance
Can anybody care to comment regarding M5 rim and tire insurance. Has anybody taken any? What would be a resonable rate for such insurance?

I passed. My dealer wanted $1,900, and it was not worth it in my opinion. I checked with my insurance, and damage to wheels/tires from road hazards is covered under my comprehensive coverage. I have a $500 deductable on comrehensive, so I would need four instances to have the W&T insurance make sense. *** KNOCK WOOD ***, I've not had a single blowout or bent rim on either of my E60s so another reason I'm not sure it makes sense.

Even with a $500 deductible, how much would a tire or wheel cost you? You would probably be better off paying for a tire out of pocket. RHTe same goes for a wheel as well. I would think that your rates would go up if you were filing claims for wheels and tires, No???

The answer to your querstion is no, my insurance company does not bump rates for filiing a claim. Your premium is your premium, no matter what. This goes for traffic tickets as well - no bump for a ticket, no matter wht it is or how many points. They are very selective in whom they accept as a customer, so only good drivers with clean or near clean driving records and a low history of claims with the previous carrier. If after you become a customer a pattern of claims or tickets arises you get a warning letter that if it continues you'll be dropped. And I've heard they are not shy about dropping people if the behavior contiues after the warning letter is issued.

Interesting insurance company you have there? Who are you using? I'm with USAA and i've been very happy so far. Are you sure the F10 M5's tires are only $250 a pop? If that's the case, I'll be going through tires left and right when I get mine

Just looked on Tire Rack. Not sure if the price moved for some reason, but now the Pilot Super Sport rears are showing as being $372. Still better than the $464 for the PS2's on the E60 M5.

Yea, i just looked on tire rack. The rear PSS are $372, but the smaller front tires are $458. Is it weird that the front's cost more than the larger rears? Don't get me wrong, we'll be more likely to burn through the rears so the cheaper the better ;-P

I bought the wheel and tire insurance. I believe the cost for three years was $1,770. That's about the cost of two wheels and tires mounted and balanced plus TPMS.
Given how bad the roads are in New York, a ruined rim and tire is a pretty likely scenario annually so I went ahead and bit the bullet. The deductible in New York State is $50 but this is the only carrier writing the policy in New York. My decision was motivated in part by the experience of several New York drivers with Alpina B7s who were blowing tires every few thousand miles. Your mileage may vary of course. |

I bought the wheel and tire package for my wife's 535i and i have gotten 3 tires replaced in 1.5 years... Nail here and there, full replacement... I would say its worth it personally and i will order on the M5.. the only draw back is that the M5 doesnt have run flats which you cant patch/plug a runflat which is why they replace the tires when it gets a nail/screw in it.. I have to 1000% make sure that they will replace the M5 tires and not try to patch/plug it if it gets a nail/screw in it... thats the only thing that will make me not purchase the tire package... it should about $1700 when i asked a few weeks ago at my dealership...

Did not get it for the M5 or any other car . Unless you have terrible luck or terrible roads it is cheaper to be self insured . Replaced one tire to a nail in 6 years . Besides the bigger worry for me is curb rash which is not covered.

I bought the tire and rim insurance since I live in a rural county and have gotten nails in every vehicle I own. My dealer said you cannot Patch these tires due to the speed rating. I was also told you can't fix these rims if they are damaged. They said $500 a tire and $2000 a rim. Sounded a bit high to me but I got the insurance for $2000 for five years. My dealer called this a no brainier and said claims on rim damage were quite common. I don't know that I agree with all that but at $400 a year one tire pays for it. Should I damage a rim I will come out way ahead. I was also told this insurance can only be bought at the time of delivery.
